What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is a not-for-profit financial institution, owned and controlled by the "members" - the people who use its services. Credit unions serve groups that share something in common, such as where they work, live, go to school or church.

Rather than existing to make a profit for shareholders, credit unions are governed by a volunteer board of directors who have a mission of providing a safe, convenient place for members to save money and to get loans at reasonable rates.

In Oklahoma, all credit unions have insurance through the National Credit Union Administration, NCUA Deposits are insured up to $100,000.

Credit unions are known for their service-oriented philosophy which is reflected in the credit union credo: "Not for profit, not for charity, but for service." Not surprisingly, credit unions continually score higher than all other financial institutions in consumer satisfaction surveys. Credit unions are the consumer's choice for unparalleled service.
